About Yalboroo
Yalboroo is a rural town and locality in the Mackay Region, Queensland, located approximately 71 kilometres north-west of Mackay and around 55 kilometres south of Proserpine. Spanning over 200 square kilometres, it is a sparsely settled locality with a 2021 Census population of just 146 residents, giving one of the lowest population densities in the region. Situated within the Whitsunday hinterland, Yalboroo sits in a broad landscape of grazing properties, tropical bush, and the rolling country that characterises this part of coastal central Queensland.
The locality is accessible via the Mackay–Eungella Road corridor, placing it within reach of both Mackay's services and the scenic Whitsunday region to the north. Yalboroo and its surrounds are known for cattle grazing and the quiet character of the Pioneer Valley hinterland. Those drawn to the area typically value the wide open spaces, a genuine rural pace, and proximity to North Queensland's remarkable natural assets — from the Whitsunday Islands coastline to the national parks of the Eungella hinterland just to the south.
Yalboroo falls under postcode 4741 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Whitsunday electorate.
