About Benjinup
Benjinup is a small rural locality in the Shire of Boyup Brook in the South West region of Western Australia, situated on the traditional land of the Kaneang people of the Noongar nation. The name Benjinup is of Kaneang origin and is said to mean 'to look out at the sun rising', reflecting the deep Indigenous connection to this land. Spanning approximately 284 square kilometres of WA's southern agricultural belt, the locality recorded a population of 143 in the 2021 Census, comprising primarily rural property owners and farming families.
The landscape is characterised by pastoral properties, jarrah country, and the rolling farmland typical of WA's South West. The town of Bridgetown, approximately 15 kilometres away, serves as the main service hub for residents and offers schools, shops, medical services, and community facilities. Like much of the Boyup Brook Shire, Benjinup supports a quiet agricultural lifestyle in one of Western Australia's most picturesque and unhurried rural regions, approximately 260 kilometres south-east of Perth.
Benjinup falls under postcode 6255 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
