About Binnum
Binnum is a small rural locality in the south-east of South Australia, situated within the Naracoorte Lucindale Council area in the Limestone Coast region. Located north-east of Naracoorte and adjacent to the Victorian border, Binnum covers approximately 178 square kilometres of agricultural land and had a population of 87 at the 2021 Census. The locality sits on what was once the Mount Gambier railway line between Naracoorte and Wolseley, a route that closed in April 1995 and once connected the region to broader South Australia.
The surrounding landscape is predominantly used for cereal cropping, sheep and beef cattle grazing, and is typical of the productive Limestone Coast agricultural region. Naracoorte, approximately 30 kilometres to the south-west, provides the nearest full range of services including supermarkets, schools, and the Naracoorte Caves World Heritage Area. Binnum is a quiet agricultural community that appeals to those engaged in farming or who value the open rural character and close proximity to both the South Australian and Victorian borderlands.
Binnum falls under postcode 5262 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mackillop electorate.
