About Blighty
Blighty is a small rural town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, situated on the Riverina Highway midway between the towns of Finley and Deniliquin in the Edward River Council local government area. With a population of around 190 people, Blighty is a compact agricultural service centre set among the flat irrigation farmland characteristic of the southern Riverina, where rice, cereal crops, and pastoral farming dominate the landscape. The town lies at coordinates near the border of Victoria, roughly 80 kilometres north of Echuca.
Blighty offers a classic small-town rural lifestyle, with a tight-knit community supported by local sporting clubs, an agricultural hall, and the Blighty Hotel — a focal point for locals and passing travellers alike. The surrounding region is known for its rich farming country, with large irrigation properties producing rice and grain along the Murray–Darling irrigation network. Residents travel to Finley (approximately 20km) or Deniliquin (approximately 30km) for most services, schools, and shopping.
