About Boscabel
Boscabel is a small rural locality in the Shire of Kojonup, within the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated approximately 18 kilometres north of the town of Kojonup and around 270 kilometres south-east of Perth via the Albany Highway. The locality covers approximately 201 square kilometres of gently undulating farmland on the traditional country of the Kaniyang people of the Noongar nation. With a recorded population of around 71 at the 2021 Census, Boscabel is a sparsely settled farming district characterised by sheep and grain properties.
The town of Boscabel was gazetted in 1913 following a request from the local progress association, and is believed to have been named after Boscobel House in Shropshire, England. The heritage-listed Boscabel Hall, built in 1917 and officially opened by the Premier of Western Australia in July 1919, served as a school, church, and community gathering space and remains in use today. Residents and farming families in the area rely on nearby Kojonup for essential services, including schools, medical care, fuel, and shopping. The Albany Highway provides a reliable connection south to Albany and north to Perth for longer-distance travel.
