About Bow Bridge
Bow Bridge is a small rural locality in the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated on the South Coast Highway midway between the towns of Denmark and Walpole. The locality takes its name from the Bow River, which the highway crosses at this point, and sits approximately 42 kilometres west of Denmark and 24 kilometres east of Walpole. Covering around 113 square kilometres, it is characterised by lush karri and jarrah forest, the adjoining Walpole-Nornalup National Park to the west, and nature reserves to the south that border the Irwin Inlet and the Southern Ocean.
The only significant structure in Bow Bridge township is the Bow Bridge Roadhouse, established before 1960, which serves as a fuel stop, post office, grocery store, and café for travellers along the South Coast Highway — the sole fuel point between Denmark and Walpole. The locality attracts visitors travelling the Bibbulmun Track and the Munda Biddi Trail, both of which pass through the area, as well as those exploring the Walpole Wilderness. With a population of just 75 residents at the 2021 Census, life here is deeply rural, with most residents relying on Denmark or Walpole for major services and shopping. The surrounding national park and nature reserves offer exceptional bushwalking, birdwatching, and access to the pristine Irwin Inlet coastline.
Bow Bridge falls under postcode 6333 and is governed by Shire of Denmark Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
