About Boxwood Hill
Boxwood Hill is a small farming locality in the Shire of Jerramungup within the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated at the junction of the South Coast Highway and Borden-Bremer Bay Road. With a 2021 Census population of 91 spread across a vast 630 square kilometres, it is a sparsely settled agricultural district approximately 390 kilometres south-east of Perth. The townsite was gazetted in 1963 and named after a local native shrub (Microcorys sp.).
Despite its small resident population, Boxwood Hill is known across the region for its active sporting community, with facilities for football, netball, hockey, cricket, and tennis that regularly draw over 200 people to events. The Pallinup River forms the locality's south-western boundary, flowing to the Southern Ocean at Beaufort Inlet. The nearest town for services is Jerramungup, approximately 50 kilometres to the north-east, while the coastal town of Bremer Bay offers beach access about 80 kilometres to the south.
