About Buckland
Buckland is a quiet rural locality situated in the Glamorgan–Spring Bay Council area on Tasmania's south-east coast, approximately 25 kilometres south-west of the town of Triabunna. Spread across a large land area of around 567 square kilometres, the locality sits along the scenic Tasman Highway corridor that connects the Midlands to the east coast. With a small population of around 188 residents, Buckland retains an intimate, close-knit community character typical of Tasmania's rural south-east.
The locality is home to the historic St John the Baptist Anglican Church, dating from the 1840s, which is one of Tasmania's most photographed rural churches and features original pre-Raphaelite stained glass windows. The surrounding landscape is characterised by open pastoral farmland and remnant native bush, making it popular with travellers passing through on the Tasman Highway towards the Freycinet Peninsula and Hobart. Residents rely primarily on private vehicles for transport and enjoy a tranquil lifestyle amid Tasmania's distinctive rural scenery.
Buckland falls under postcode 7190 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Prosser) electorate.
