About Little Swanport
Little Swanport is a rural locality situated on the East Coast of Tasmania, within the local government area of Glamorgan-Spring Bay. The locality lies along the shores of Great Oyster Bay, approximately 23 kilometres south of Swansea and roughly midway between Swansea and Triabunna on the Tasman Highway. Covering a large area of nearly 150 square kilometres, Little Swanport is one of the more expansive rural localities on Tasmania's picturesque east coast, with a small permanent population of around 148 residents.
The locality takes its name from the Little Swanport River, whose estuary meets Great Oyster Bay here, creating a tranquil and scenically striking environment. Little Swanport holds cultural and linguistic significance as the home territory of the Little Swanport Aboriginal language of Tasmania. The sweeping views across Great Oyster Bay toward the Freycinet Peninsula and the undeveloped coastal landscape make it a quietly appealing destination for those seeking an authentic, remote Tasmanian lifestyle. Swansea to the north and Triabunna to the south provide basic services, while Hobart is approximately 1.5 hours drive via the Tasman Highway.
Little Swanport falls under postcode 7190 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Prosser) electorate.
