About Cordalba
Cordalba is a small rural town and locality in the Bundaberg Region of Queensland, situated approximately 42 kilometres south-west of Bundaberg and 14 kilometres north-west of Childers along the Isis Highway. Founded in 1896, the town has a proud history tied to the Queensland sugar industry and notably played a role in the Sugar Workers' Strike of 1911. With a population of 467 at the 2021 Census across an area of nearly 15 square kilometres, Cordalba maintains the character of a tight-knit rural community in Queensland's Wide Bay region.
Loggers Creek flows through the township, and the adjacent Cordalba State Forest provides a natural backdrop of rugged eucalypt bushland, offering mountain biking, walking trails, and wildlife spotting for nature enthusiasts. The community social life centres on the Commercial Hotel on Queen Street and local school events at Cordalba State School, established in 1894. Cordalba's subtropical climate — warm, wet summers and mild winters — makes it typical of the Wide Bay coastal hinterland, and the area retains strong agricultural ties to the surrounding sugarcane and farming districts.
Cordalba falls under postcode 4660 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Maryborough electorate.
