About Crossroads
Crossroads is a vast rural locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, situated approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Chinchilla and 170 kilometres northwest of Toowoomba. With a population of just 127 people recorded in the 2021 Census, it is one of Queensland's most sparsely settled localities, spread across more than 290 square kilometres of open farming country. The landscape is characterised by flat to gently undulating terrain supporting dryland cropping and grazing properties typical of the Darling Downs hinterland.
Life in Crossroads revolves around the agricultural community, with residents largely self-sufficient and reliant on nearby Chinchilla for essential services, shopping, and schooling. The locality is traversed by the Condamine Kogan Road, a key rural arterial linking surrounding properties to regional centres. Residents value wide-open spaces, a strong farming heritage, and the quiet, close-knit character of outback Queensland.
Crossroads falls under postcode 4413 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
