About Douglas-Daly
Douglas-Daly is a large remote locality in the Northern Territory, situated roughly 200 kilometres south of Darwin and 200 kilometres north-west of Katherine along the Stuart Highway corridor. Covering an expansive area of approximately 4,903 square kilometres, it is one of the most sparsely populated localities in the NT with around 173 residents. The region is defined by its tropical savanna landscape, with the Douglas River and the Daly River — one of the Territory's most significant waterways — forming natural landmarks of the area.
The Douglas-Daly region is a popular destination for fishing, camping, and nature-based tourism, with the Douglas Daly Holiday Park attracting visitors to the picturesque Douglas River. The Daly River itself is renowned as one of Australia's premier barramundi fishing locations. Access is primarily by car via the Stuart Highway and Dorat Road, and residents rely on Darwin or Katherine for most services, shopping, and healthcare. The area also supports horticultural and agricultural activities, contributing to the broader NT food production landscape.
Douglas-Daly falls under postcode 822 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Spillett electorate.
