About Dundee Beach
Dundee Beach is a small coastal locality in the Northern Territory, situated approximately 59 kilometres southwest of Darwin on the shores of the Timor Sea. Established in 1997, the community has a population of around 207 people and is famous throughout the NT as one of the premier barramundi fishing destinations in Australia. The area features a rugged tropical coastline with mangroves, tidal creeks, and spectacular sunsets over the Timor Sea, in a region with a hot tropical climate receiving around 1,778 mm of rainfall annually.
Dundee Beach attracts avid recreational fishers, sea-change seekers, and those who value an extremely relaxed coastal lifestyle away from the bustle of Darwin. The community has a holiday-home character, with many residents being weekend or seasonal visitors from Darwin who come for the world-class barramundi fishing and boating. Amenities are minimal on-site, with residents accessing most services in Darwin; however, the boat ramp, basic facilities, and breathtaking coastal scenery make Dundee Beach a beloved escape for Territory locals.
