About Duaringa
Duaringa is a small rural locality in the Central Highlands region of Queensland, situated approximately 107 kilometres west of Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway. Administered by the Central Highlands Regional Council, the locality covers an expansive 626 square kilometres of central Queensland grazing country. With a population of 262 at the 2021 Census, Duaringa retains the character of one of Queensland's oldest inland settlements, with buildings dating back to the 1860s.
Duaringa is noted as a gateway to the Central Queensland Highlands and is home to the Duaringa Historical and Tourism Information Centre, housed in the historic Mackenzie Park precinct. A large mural painted by local artists marks the entry from the Capricorn Highway, and the park serves as a popular stopover for interstate travellers and grey nomads. The locality suits those with a strong affinity for outback Queensland history, wide-open spaces, and a deeply rural way of life.
Duaringa falls under postcode 4712 and is governed by the Central Highlands Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Flynn, while state elections fall under the Gregory electorate.
