About Egg Lagoon
Egg Lagoon is a remote rural locality on the northern end of King Island in Bass Strait, Tasmania, approximately 36 kilometres north of the main town of Currie. With a population of just 27 residents, it is one of the most isolated communities in Tasmania. The locality is named after the large number of goose eggs historically found in the area, and it was gazetted in 1971.
Life in Egg Lagoon is defined by King Island's rugged natural beauty, with the Southern Ocean to the west and Bass Strait to the east. The area is predominantly used for dairy farming and beef cattle grazing, which are King Island's primary industries. Residents enjoy an extremely quiet, self-sufficient lifestyle surrounded by pristine coastline, abundant wildlife, and King Island's renowned gourmet produce including premium cheese and beef.
