About Fairyland
Fairyland is a large, sparsely settled rural locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, covering approximately 266 square kilometres of predominantly pastoral land. It is located in the broader Darling Downs area, with the Chinchilla–Wondai Road passing the south-eastern corner of the locality, and parts of the Barakula State Forest and Nudley State Forest forming its northern and south-eastern boundaries respectively. The 2021 census recorded a population of just 90 people in the locality, reflecting its character as a lightly populated grazing and cropping district. The locality takes its name from the Fairyland pastoral run, first recorded in 1863.
The land use in Fairyland is dominated by grazing on native vegetation, with some cropping across the southern portions of the locality. The two state forests that border the area provide a natural backdrop and some ecological value to this otherwise working agricultural landscape. There are no shops, schools, or community facilities within the locality itself; residents rely on nearby towns in the Western Downs Region, including Chinchilla, for services and supplies. Fairyland is car-dependent, with the surrounding road network linking it to the wider Darling Downs region.
Fairyland falls under postcode 4413 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
