About Formartin
Formartin is a small agricultural locality on the Darling Downs in south-east Queensland, situated within the Toowoomba Regional Council area. The locality lies approximately 40 kilometres north of Dalby, 62 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba, and is bounded to the north and north-east by Oakey Creek, a tributary of the Condamine River. Covering around 133 square kilometres, Formartin recorded a 2021 Census population of 89 residents, reflecting its character as a sparsely settled cropping and farming district.
Formartin's fertile Darling Downs soils — ranging from dark self-mulching clay to brown loam — support intensive cropping including grain and irrigated agriculture, particularly along the creek frontages in the north of the locality. The surrounding landscape is the quintessential open plains of the Darling Downs, with broad paddocks and a flat to gently undulating terrain. Nearby centres including Jondaryan (approximately 18 kilometres east) and Oakey provide essential services, while Dalby and Toowoomba offer a full range of retail, schooling, and healthcare facilities. The locality falls within the productive heart of Queensland's agricultural belt.
