Garah is a small agricultural village in north-western New South Wales, located on the Carnarvon Highway approximately 51 kilometres north-west of Moree and 667 kilometres north-west of Sydney, within Moree Plains Shire. The locality spans a vast area of over 2,300 square kilometres of fertile black soil plains, with a population of approximately 291 residents at the 2021 Census. The name Garah derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "long" or "a long distance," reflecting the vast distances of the north-west interior.

Garah is deeply embedded in the agricultural life of the Moree Plains, surrounded by cropping, sheep, and cattle properties that define the region's economy. The village once had a railway station on the Mungindi line, operating from 1913 until its closure in 1974, and this history is part of Garah's identity. Today the Garah Hotel remains a focal point for the community, and organisations like the Country Women's Association and the Garah Progress Association continue to drive local events and projects. Moree, famous for its artesian hot springs and a regional service centre with schools, hospital, and shops, is accessible via a straightforward 50-kilometre drive.

Garah falls under postcode 2405 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Northern Tablelands electorate.
