About Hansonville
Hansonville is a small rural locality in the Greta district of north-east Victoria, part of the Rural City of Wangaratta local government area, situated approximately 20 kilometres south of Wangaratta and around 240 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. Covering approximately 66 square kilometres, the locality had a population of around 155 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is characterised by open grazing land and scattered farming properties set against the backdrop of the Victorian Alps foothills.
Hansonville sits within the broader King Valley and Greta district, a region celebrated for its cool-climate wines, particularly the prosecco and Italian varietals that have put the King Valley on the Australian wine map. The town of Wangaratta, with its full suite of shops, schools, healthcare, and the Ovens Valley's vibrant arts and food scene, is the main service hub for residents. The locality offers a genuinely rural lifestyle with the natural beauty of north-east Victoria — rolling hills, nearby rivers, and the alpine country — on the doorstep.
Hansonville falls under postcode 3675 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Ovens Valley (Northern Victoria) electorate.
