About Lakeside
Lakeside is a small rural locality in the North Burnett Region of Queensland, situated along the Maryborough–Biggenden Road between the coastal city of Maryborough and the inland town of Biggenden. Covering approximately 104 square kilometres of predominantly grazing land on native vegetation, it had a 2021 Census population of 69 residents. The locality is positioned near the northern boundary of the Mount Walsh National Park, set within the gently rolling pastoral landscape of Wide Bay–Burnett.
The area is characterised by grazing properties with typical rural infrastructure including stock yards, dams, and bore water, with farming and rural lifestyle the primary land use. The nearest town of Biggenden, approximately 8 kilometres to the north-west, provides basic services and is home to Biggenden State School, the nearest government school. Maryborough, roughly 85 kilometres to the east, offers a wider range of shopping, healthcare, and secondary schooling. Lakeside railway station, located in the locality, is a now-abandoned station on the former Mungar Junction to Monto railway line.
