About Levendale
Levendale is a small rural settlement in southern Tasmania, located approximately 53 kilometres north of Hobart. The locality spans the Southern Midlands Council area (around 72%) and the Glamorgan–Spring Bay Council (about 28%), covering over 90 square kilometres of farming country in the Tasmanian Midlands. With a population of 129 as recorded in the 2021 Census, the community is tight-knit and oriented around farming and the local primary school.
The locality is best known for its historic primary school, established in 1901, which doubles as a community centre and social hub. Australian novelist Rachael Treasure has resided in the area, bringing some literary recognition to the district. There are no shops, pubs, or commercial services in Levendale itself — residents travel to nearby towns such as Oatlands or Triabunna for everyday needs. The landscape is classic Tasmanian Midlands: rolling pastoral hills, dry eucalypt woodland, and a quiet rural character.
