Loira is a small rural community in the West Tamar Council local government area, located approximately 31 kilometres north-west of Launceston in the Western Tamar Valley region of Tasmania. The name Loira is derived from an Aboriginal Tasmanian word meaning "charcoal reduced to powder", and the area was originally known as Port Station.
