About Marble Hill
Marble Hill is a small historic locality nestled in the Adelaide Hills, approximately 20 kilometres east of Adelaide CBD within the Adelaide Hills Council area. Covering just 1.5 square kilometres, the locality is positioned between the villages of Ashton and Cherryville and commands expansive views across the Adelaide Plains to the west and the Hills to the north and east. With a 2021 Census population of 69 residents, Marble Hill is one of the smallest localities in the Adelaide Hills, maintaining a quiet, semi-rural character.
Marble Hill takes its name from the former Vice-Regal summer residence of South Australia's Governors, an impressive Victorian Gothic Revival mansion built between 1878 and 1879 and used until it was destroyed in the devastating Black Sunday bushfire of 1955. Today the ruins and restored stables operate as a boutique wine and event venue, where visitors can taste Marble Hill wines and explore the historic property amid beautiful hilltop gardens. Public transport options are limited, with Adelaide Metro bus services accessible via nearby Ashton, while the B31 Norton Summit Road provides the main connection to the CBD. The area is popular with those seeking a peaceful Hills lifestyle within commuting distance of Adelaide.
Marble Hill falls under postcode 5137 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Heysen electorate.
