About Marnoo
Marnoo is a small historic town in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, located on the Wimmera Highway at the junction of the Donald–Stawell Road within the Northern Grampians Shire. The town sits along the Richardson River and had a 2021 Census population of 99 residents across approximately 118 square kilometres of open farming country. Named after a pastoral run established in 1845, Marnoo has deep roots in Victoria's early settlement history.
Today Marnoo is a tight-knit farming community centred on its general store, public hall, and primary school. The surrounding land is devoted to broadacre cropping and livestock grazing, and the town retains a strong sense of rural identity. The Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park lies to the south-west, offering bushwalking and scenic attractions within a manageable drive, while the larger service towns of St Arnaud and Stawell provide essential retail, health, and education facilities.
Marnoo falls under postcode 3387 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Ripon (Western Victoria) electorate.
