About Miriam Vale
Miriam Vale is a rural town and locality in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, situated on the Bruce Highway approximately 464 kilometres north of Brisbane and 68 kilometres south-south-east of Gladstone. The locality covers 43.6 square kilometres and had a population of 493 at the 2021 Census, making it a small but historically significant highway town in the Wide Bay–Burnett hinterland. It falls under the Gladstone Regional Council and is served by the state electorate of Burnett and federal division of Flynn.
Miriam Vale has long been a traditional cattle-growing area and was once home to thriving tobacco and dairy industries. Today it serves primarily as a service stop and gateway community for travellers on the Bruce Highway, with the town offering basic amenities including a service station and local pub. Its most notable role is as the turning-off point for Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 — two increasingly popular coastal tourism destinations on the Southern Great Barrier Reef coast, roughly 70 kilometres to the east. The surrounding landscape of open pastoral country, dry eucalypt woodland, and coastal hinterland gives Miriam Vale a distinctly Queensland outback–meets–coast character.
Miriam Vale falls under postcode 4677 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Burnett electorate.
