Mount Garnet is a small rural town in Queensland's Tablelands Region, situated at an elevation of 660 m on the Atherton Tablelands, approximately 161 km south-west of Cairns. The town spans a large locality of around 503 km² and recorded a population of 532 residents in the 2021 Census. Named after the garnet minerals found in the area, Mount Garnet has a rich history in base metal mining — primarily zinc, lead, and silver — which shaped the town's early development.
