About Mypolonga
Mypolonga is a rural town in South Australia's Murraylands region, situated on the western bank of the lower Murray River approximately 18 kilometres north-east of Murray Bridge, within the Rural City of Murray Bridge local government area. With a population of around 506 residents spread across 46 square kilometres, the town sits among scenic limestone cliffs and agricultural land between Mannum and Murray Bridge. Its name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning 'cliff lookout place', a fitting description of its elevated Murray River setting.
Mypolonga has a strong agricultural identity, producing cow's milk, buffalo milk, stone fruit including apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums, as well as citrus, wine grapes, and olives — earning it recognition as a finalist in the 2021 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year award. The town is served by a local post office and general store, a primary school, and an Australian Rules Football team competing in the River Murray Football League. The striking limestone cliffs and riverside setting make Mypolonga a scenic and distinctive community that combines rural productivity with natural beauty.
Mypolonga falls under postcode 5254 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hammond electorate.
