About Narembeen
Narembeen is a small Wheatbelt town in Western Australia, approximately 286 kilometres east of Perth and serving as the main settlement of the Shire of Narembeen. The town was established in 1922 and covers a compact area of less than one square kilometre, sitting at an elevation of 280 metres on the vast agricultural plains of the Central Wheatbelt. With a 2021 Census population of 423, Narembeen functions as a service hub for the surrounding farming district, and around 10 per cent of its dwellings are social housing.
The local economy is driven by cereal cropping — particularly wheat — along with cattle and sheep grazing across the broader shire. Narembeen has a grain receival point, a hotel, public hall, and essential community services that cater to the farming community. The town has a strong agricultural heritage and a close-knit community spirit typical of WA's Wheatbelt towns, though residents depend on Merredin (66 km north) or Perth for specialist services and major shopping.
Narembeen falls under postcode 6369 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
