About Wadderin
Wadderin is a vast rural locality in Western Australia's eastern Wheatbelt, situated within the Shire of Narembeen approximately 290 kilometres east of Perth. Covering over 671 square kilometres of agricultural land, it is one of the more expansive localities in the region, with a 2021 Census population of just 100 residents. The landscape is dominated by cereal cropping farms, native woodland remnants, and the semi-arid conditions typical of the Central Wheatbelt.
The locality is home to the Wadderin Wildlife Sanctuary, a 430-hectare predator-proof fenced reserve located about 8 kilometres north of the town of Narembeen. Managed by a local volunteer community group, the sanctuary protects threatened native mammals including the red-tailed phascogale, woylie, and quenda, and offers guided night tours for visitors. Beyond the sanctuary, Wadderin is primarily a farming locality with no town centre of its own; residents rely on Narembeen for services including shops, a school, and medical facilities.
Wadderin falls under postcode 6369 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
