About Numeralla
Numeralla is a historic village and rural locality in the Snowy Monaro Region of New South Wales, located 23 kilometres east of Cooma along the Numeralla River. Originally known as Umaralla until 1972, the settlement was established in the 1860s and proclaimed a village in 1885, giving it one of the richer pastoral histories in the Monaro tablelands. The locality spans nearly 175 square kilometres and had a population of around 254 residents at the 2021 census.
Set at around 850 metres elevation in the high country, Numeralla offers a peaceful rural lifestyle popular with farmers, hobby farmers, and those seeking a genuine bush retreat. The Numeralla River is a favourite spot for anglers, while the surrounding landscape holds historic links to the 19th-century gold rush. Cooma is the nearest service town for shopping, schools, and healthcare, while Canberra is roughly two hours away by car.
Numeralla falls under postcode 2630 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Monaro electorate.
