About Peppimenarti
Peppimenarti, commonly known as "Peppi", is a remote Aboriginal Australian community located approximately 320 kilometres south-west of Darwin in the Daly River region of the Northern Territory. Situated on Tom Turner Creek, the community is part of the West Daly Regional Council and has a population of around 190 people, the majority being from the Ngan'gikurunggurr and related language groups. The area sits within a tropical savanna landscape rich in biodiversity and cultural significance.
Peppimenarti is home to Durrmu Arts, a respected Aboriginal arts centre that supports local artists working in weaving, painting, and printmaking, and helps connect them with national and international galleries. The community has a school, health clinic, and essential services managed with the support of the NT Government and regional council. Access to Darwin requires a long drive along unsealed roads, and the wet season can periodically cut off road access, making the community largely self-reliant for extended periods.
Peppimenarti falls under postcode 822 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Spillett electorate.
