About Point Pass
Point Pass is a small town in the Mid North region of South Australia, approximately 115 kilometres north of Adelaide and 11 kilometres north of Eudunda, within the Regional Council of Goyder. With a population of around 123 residents, the town covers an area of approximately 36 square kilometres of dry-land farming country on the Clare Valley fringe. The locality sits between the larger towns of Eudunda to the south and Burra to the north, forming part of a string of small agricultural communities in this part of the state.
Point Pass retains a modest cluster of community infrastructure including a hotel with social club, a district hall that also serves as an Australia Post community postal agency, and a Lutheran church — reflecting the German heritage of many early settlers in the region. The local oval has been repurposed as a community recreational space. Residents rely on Eudunda for most services and schooling, with Clare and Gawler accessible for wider shopping and medical needs. The surrounding countryside supports grain farming and grazing typical of the Mid North.
Point Pass falls under postcode 5374 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
