Tansey is a small rural town and locality in the Gympie Region of Queensland, situated along the Burnett Highway approximately 74 kilometres west-north-west of Gympie and around 239 kilometres north-north-west of Brisbane. The locality covers a large area of roughly 352 square kilometres and had a population of 154 at the 2021 census. The north and centre of the locality fall within Grongah National Park, which extends into several neighbouring localities and gives Tansey a distinct bushland character.
Outside the national park, Tansey's landscape is predominantly devoted to cattle grazing, reflecting the agricultural character typical of Queensland's Wide Bay–Burnett region. The nearest towns are Goomeri (17 kilometres to the south) and Murgon (34 kilometres to the south-west), where residents access schools, shops, and community services. The Burnett Highway running through the locality provides the main transport link, and the surrounding region is part of Queensland's emerging wine grape country, with several vineyards operating nearby.
Tansey falls under postcode 4601 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
