About Ti Tree
Ti Tree is a small outback locality in the Northern Territory, situated on the Stuart Highway approximately 193 kilometres north of Alice Springs and around 1,109 kilometres south of Darwin. The locality sits within the Central Desert region, on Anmatyerre Country, and serves as the first substantial service stop heading north from Alice Springs toward Tennant Creek. With a 2021 Census population of 88 residents, Ti Tree functions as a local service hub for surrounding pastoral stations and Aboriginal communities, including nearby outstations such as Utopia.
Ti Tree has developed a notable agricultural identity despite its remote outback setting, with underground water from the Amadeus Basin supporting the production of table grapes, watermelons, and fresh vegetables that supply Territory markets. The Ti-Tree Roadhouse on the Stuart Highway provides fuel, food, accommodation, and a caravan park for travellers on the long highway run between Alice Springs and Darwin. The wider Ti Tree area encompasses several cattle stations and Aboriginal community lands, and the locality falls within the Lingiari federal electorate, reflecting the predominantly Indigenous character of the broader region.
Ti Tree falls under postcode 872 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Namatjira electorate.
