About Allenby Gardens
Allenby Gardens is a western suburb of Adelaide, located just 4.7 kilometres from the CBD within the City of Charles Sturt. With a population of around 2,000, this compact suburb was laid out in 1922 by State Town Planner Charles Reade. Originally advertised as 'Gallipoli Gardens', it was renamed to honour British Field Marshal Lord Allenby shortly after.
The suburb is divided by Grange Road, with Port Road forming the northern boundary. The southern edge features the River Torrens and Linear Park Trail, offering excellent cycling and walking paths into the city or west towards the coast. Allenby Gardens Primary School has served the community since 1926. Local shopping is centred on cafes and boutiques along Grange Road and the Allenby Gardens Shopping Complex. The suburb attracts a diverse, multicultural community with residents of Italian, Greek, Vietnamese and Indian heritage alongside Australian-born families.
Allenby Gardens falls under postcode 5009 and is governed by Charles Sturt Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the West Torrens electorate.
