About Ridleyton
Ridleyton is a small inner-northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, situated approximately 4.3 kilometres north-west of the Adelaide city centre in the City of Charles Sturt. With a population of around 1,180 as of the 2021 Census, it is one of Adelaide's more compact suburbs, covering just 0.4 square kilometres. The suburb was established in 1873 and is named after John Ridley, inventor of the mechanical grain stripper. Its quiet residential streets, heritage stobie poles, and proximity to the city give it a characterful, established feel.
Ridleyton offers a mix of older cottages and post-war homes typical of Adelaide's inner suburbs, with tree-lined streets and a relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere. The suburb benefits from good public transport connections via Torrens Road bus routes and is a short drive or cycle to Adelaide's inner-west amenities in nearby Hindmarsh and Croydon. Greenshields Reserve provides local green space for residents. The community is a blend of long-term residents and younger newcomers attracted by its quiet character and convenient location.
Ridleyton falls under postcode 5008 and is governed by Charles Sturt Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Croydon electorate.
