About Antechamber Bay
Antechamber Bay is a small coastal locality on the eastern tip of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, approximately 108 kilometres south of Adelaide and 15 kilometres east of Penneshaw. With a population of just 13 residents, it is one of the most sparsely populated localities on Kangaroo Island, covering around 15 square kilometres of coastline and bushland. The locality is governed by the Kangaroo Island Council and was formally established as a named place in 2002, named after the bay that forms part of the scenic eastern coastline of the island.
Antechamber Bay attracts visitors and sea-changers drawn to its dramatic coastal scenery, pristine beaches, and connection to Kangaroo Island's exceptional natural environment. The area is close to Lashmar Conservation Park and offers opportunities for fishing, wildlife watching — including sea eagles, seals, and dolphins — and solitary beach walks. The small number of permanent residents enjoy an extremely quiet, nature-focused lifestyle, while the broader area benefits from Kangaroo Island's growing reputation for premium tourism, local wines, and artisan produce.
Antechamber Bay falls under postcode 5222 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
