About Dudley West
Dudley West is a small coastal locality on the southern tip of the Dudley Peninsula, on the south coast of Kangaroo Island in South Australia. Situated approximately 118 kilometres south of Adelaide and 11 kilometres south of Penneshaw, it overlooks the Southern Ocean. With a population of just 25 residents recorded in the 2021 census, it is one of the most sparsely settled localities on Kangaroo Island. The area falls within the Kangaroo Island Council and was formally gazetted as a locality in 2002.
Dudley West offers a pristine and remote coastal lifestyle prized for its rugged natural beauty, wildlife, and seclusion. The surrounding coastline features dramatic cliffs and sheltered beaches accessible to those who seek the quiet splendour of Kangaroo Island's less-visited southern shore. Residents and visitors enjoy bushwalking, wildlife spotting — including kangaroos, wallabies, and sea eagles — and the area's unspoilt coastal scenery. The locality appeals to those drawn to off-grid living or rural retreats far from urban centres.
Dudley West falls under postcode 5222 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
