About Bamboo Creek
Bamboo Creek is a small rural locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Far North Queensland, situated in the South Johnstone River catchment south-west of Innisfail and within approximately 12 kilometres of Innisfail town centre. The locality covers around 13 square kilometres and had a 2021 Census population of 88 residents. Land use is agricultural in character, with the majority of the area devoted to sugarcane cultivation and some grazing on native vegetation, typical of the broader Cassowary Coast agricultural belt.
Bamboo Creek takes its name from the twin-branched watercourse that forms its boundaries, a tributary of the South Johnstone River. Sugarcane is the dominant crop, grown particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the locality, and harvested cane is transported via the regional tramway network to the South Johnstone Sugar Mill. Residents rely on Innisfail for schools, shopping, medical services, and broader community facilities, with the town's well-known Art Deco architecture, tropical markets, and Cassowary Coast amenities all within easy reach.
Bamboo Creek falls under postcode 4860 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
