About Coorumba
Coorumba is a small rural locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 16 kilometres west-south-west of Innisfail and around 95 kilometres south of Cairns in the tropical far north. Covering 17.4 square kilometres, it had a population of 137 at the 2021 Census across a relatively sparse settlement in the foothills of the Atherton Tablelands. The Johnstone River forms the northern boundary of the locality, adding a defining natural feature to its lush tropical landscape.
The surrounding area is characterised by tropical agriculture — primarily sugar cane, bananas, and tropical fruits — typical of the Cassowary Coast Region. Innisfail, the nearest significant town, provides access to schools, medical services, shopping, and the iconic Art Deco architecture for which it is known. Coorumba appeals to those who value a secluded rural lifestyle amid rich tropical scenery, with the natural wonders of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the Great Barrier Reef region within reach.
Coorumba falls under postcode 4860 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
