About Byaduk
Byaduk is a small rural township in the Shire of Southern Grampians in Victoria's Western District, situated approximately 16 kilometres north of Hamilton. With a population of just 129 people as of the 2021 Census, it covers an expansive 120 square kilometres of volcanic plains and pastoral farmland. European settlement began around 1853, when Wendish (Sorbian) Lutheran immigrants arrived and named the settlement Neukirch after their hometown in Saxony, giving the area a distinctive cultural heritage.
Byaduk retains a quiet, close-knit farming community character with little commercial activity of its own, though residents rely on nearby Hamilton for services, shopping and healthcare. The surrounding landscape is ideal for sheep and cattle grazing, and the area's heritage is preserved through the Byaduk Heritage Precinct. The community gathers around the J.A. Christie Oval and the local area is dotted with historic Lutheran sites. It suits those seeking affordable rural acreage with a genuine small-town feel.
Byaduk falls under postcode 3301 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South-West Coast (Western Victoria) electorate.
