About Hensley Park
Hensley Park is a rural locality in the Southern Grampians Shire in south-west Victoria, situated approximately 8 kilometres north of the regional city of Hamilton and around 290 kilometres west of Melbourne's CBD. Covering more than 140 square kilometres of open grazing and agricultural land, the locality is best known as the site of Hamilton Airport — the only public airport serving the region. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 75 residents, reflecting the locality's sparse settlement amid broad pastoral farmland.
Hamilton Airport, managed by Southern Grampians Shire Council and located on Hensley Park Road, has a notable history as the birthplace of Ansett Airways — Reginald Ansett founded the airline here in 1936, and the terminal is named the Sir RM Ansett Terminal in his honour. The airport today serves general aviation, charter flights, aerial firefighting, and the Hamilton Aero Club. For day-to-day services, residents rely on Hamilton, which offers supermarkets, hospitals, schools, and a range of retail and community facilities typical of a south-west Victorian regional city.
Hensley Park falls under postcode 3301 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South-West Coast (Western Victoria) electorate.
