About Fitzgerald River National Park

Fitzgerald River National Park is a vast protected wilderness area spanning approximately 2,412 square kilometres on Western Australia's southern coast, located about 419 kilometres southeast of Perth between Bremer Bay and Hopetoun. Listed on Australia's National Heritage List and recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the park is celebrated for its extraordinary biodiversity, containing nearly 20% of WA's described plant species in just one park. The locality has no permanent residential population, serving instead as a world-class destination for ecotourism, scientific research, and outdoor recreation. Its rugged coastline, coastal heathlands, and ancient ranges make it one of the most botanically significant national parks in the Southern Hemisphere.

Visitors to Fitzgerald River National Park are rewarded with spectacular scenery, including pristine beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, and sweeping heathlands ablaze with wildflowers in spring. The park offers swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, surfing, and fishing at sheltered bays and inlets, while winter months provide prime vantage points for whale watching along the southern migration route. Bushwalkers and birdwatchers are particularly well catered for, with diverse trail networks and an incredible range of endemic fauna including the rare ground parrot and dibbler. Bremer Bay and Hopetoun serve as the nearest service towns on either boundary of the park.

Fitzgerald River National Park falls under postcode 6346 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
