About Jerdacuttup
Jerdacuttup is a remote rural locality in Western Australia's Goldfields–Esperance region, situated approximately 584 kilometres east-south-east of Perth and 43 kilometres south-east of Ravensthorpe. Established in 1966 as a supply centre during the opening of south-east WA for agricultural settlement, the townsite covers a vast 1,188 km². The 2021 census recorded a population of 183, predominantly male, reflecting the pastoral and farming character of the community.
The dominant industries in the area are sheep grazing and cereal cropping, with some cattle grazing and lupin production also present. The nearby Jerdacuttup River lies about 16 kilometres to the west of the townsite. Residents rely on Ravensthorpe for most services including health, retail, and schools. The locality was immortalised in the song 'Jerdacuttup Man' by Perth band The Triffids on their 1987 album Calenture.
Jerdacuttup falls under postcode 6346 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
