About Imanpa
Imanpa is a small remote community in the MacDonnell Region of the Northern Territory, located approximately 1,419 kilometres south of Darwin and around 280 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs. Sitting at an elevation of around 490 metres on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) homelands, the locality covers around 16 square kilometres and recorded a population of 124 at the 2021 Census. Formerly part of the Mount Ebenezer pastoral station, Imanpa was formally established as a community locality in 2007.
The community is located in an arid landscape of red desert, spinifex, and mulga scrub, close to the border with South Australia and not far from the iconic Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Imanpa is a predominantly Indigenous community and sits within the Namatjira Territory electorate. Residents rely on Yulara (near Uluru) and Alice Springs for major services, healthcare, and retail, as the community itself offers only basic local facilities. The area's remote setting makes self-sufficiency and community resilience central to daily life.
Imanpa falls under postcode 872 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Namatjira electorate.
