About Marryatville
Marryatville is a compact residential suburb situated approximately 4 to 5 kilometres east of the Adelaide city centre, within the City of Norwood Payneham St Peters council area. With a population of around 648 residents spread across just 0.3 square kilometres, it is a densely settled locality comprising predominantly low- to medium-density housing. The suburb carries a proud heritage, named after Augusta Sophia Marryat, wife of South Australia's fifth Governor Sir Henry Young, following the laying out of the village in 1848.
Marryatville is home to two well-regarded schools — Marryatville High School and Loreto College — which anchor the community and attract families to the area. Heritage-listed buildings including Eden Park and The Acacias (now part of the respective school campuses) add a sense of history to the streetscape. The Marryatville Shopping Centre provides local convenience shopping, two creeks meander through the suburb adding green character, and the vibrant Kensington Road and The Parade in neighbouring suburbs offer a wider range of cafes, restaurants, and boutique stores within easy walking distance.
Marryatville falls under postcode 5068 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Dunstan electorate.
