About Millstream
Millstream is a rural locality in the Tablelands Region of Far North Queensland, situated on the Atherton Tablelands approximately 20 kilometres south-west of Malanda. With around 981 residents recorded in the 2021 census, it is one of the more populated rural localities on the Tablelands, shaped by rich volcanic soils and a lush subtropical highland climate. The Millstream itself flows south-west through the locality, draining into the Wild River, and the area is bounded to the west by the Wild River corridor.
The locality is known for its productive dairy and cattle farming, with the fertile basalt soils of the Tablelands supporting a strong agricultural community. Residents access everyday services in Malanda, which has a supermarket, schools and the famous Malanda Falls. The broader Atherton Tablelands region offers world-class natural attractions including crater lakes, rainforest walks, platypus-watching spots and a thriving artisan and farm-to-table food culture, making Millstream a desirable base for those seeking a relaxed highland lifestyle.
Millstream falls under postcode 4888 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
