About Tumoulin
Tumoulin is a small rural town and locality in the Tablelands Region of Far North Queensland, located approximately 117 kilometres south-west of Cairns and around 5.8 kilometres north-west of Ravenshoe. Covering 48.1 square kilometres on the Atherton Tablelands, the locality had a population of 135 residents at the 2021 Census. Its elevated tableland setting gives it a cooler climate compared to the tropical coast, with the surrounding landscape shaped by agricultural land and native vegetation typical of the wet tropics hinterland.
Tumoulin sits within a quiet, rural part of the Tablelands Region, with the nearby town of Ravenshoe providing the closest access to schools, shops, and basic services. Ravenshoe is notable as the highest town in Queensland and serves as a gateway to the southern Atherton Tablelands. The area attracts those who appreciate the cool, green highland environment, farming lifestyle, and the natural beauty of the tablelands, with the broader Cairns region accessible for larger retail and medical needs.
Tumoulin falls under postcode 4888 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
