About Spring Beach
Spring Beach is a small coastal locality in south-east Tasmania, situated within the Glamorgan–Spring Bay Council area approximately 14 kilometres south of Triabunna and around 90 kilometres north-east of Hobart. The locality covers just under 9 square kilometres and sits along the shoreline of Mercury Passage, the sheltered strait between the Tasman Peninsula and Maria Island. With a population of 129 recorded in the 2021 Census, it is a quiet, lightly settled community prized for its natural beauty and coastal character.
The eastern boundary of Spring Beach follows the Mercury Passage shoreline, offering residents access to calm, scenic coastal waters and views of Maria Island National Park across the strait. The area is popular with sea-change seekers and retirees looking for a peaceful retreat within driving distance of Hobart. There are no shops or commercial services in Spring Beach; the nearby towns of Orford to the north and Triabunna offer basic amenities. Rheban Road (Route C320) provides the main road access through the locality.
Spring Beach falls under postcode 7190 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Prosser) electorate.
