About Titjikala
Titjikala, also known as Tapatjatjaka, is a remote Aboriginal community located approximately 120 kilometres southeast of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Situated in the MacDonnell Region within the ancestral Country of its traditional custodians, the community had a population of around 196 at the 2021 census. The surrounding landscape is dramatically arid — red sand plains and rocky outcrops stretching toward Chambers Pillar and Horseshoe Bend.
The community is governed under the MacDonnell Regional Council and maintains strong cultural connections to country extending from Horseshoe Bend through to Chambers Pillar and the surrounding ranges. Services in Titjikala are limited, with residents relying on Alice Springs for medical care, education and major shopping. Access is via an unsealed road from the Stuart Highway, making the community particularly remote during wet season.
Titjikala falls under postcode 872 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Namatjira electorate.
